|Volume 2||February 2017|
I can remember as a young man purchasing that first valentine for a special young lady. The care spent in choosing just the right one that had the right message. Then the nervousness when it came time to deliver the card. How would it be received? Would she laugh at me or smile after receiving the card? The joys and worries that came during this month of love.
As we prepare for this month of love, we need to remember that we have a valentine that will never laugh, but will always show us love no matter what we do. The love of God always is there for us. Ready to surround us and uphold us in times of trouble. We can be sure of this and believe this.
Remember, “God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son.” Also, “While we were yet sinners, God sent his Son.” God’s love is not just for the good, but for everyone. The grace of God is always reaching out to embrace all and call everyone to join the family of God.
Once accepted into the family of God and we have been redeemed by his grace and love, we seek to return the love we have received by moving closer to being the people God wants us to be. The works we perform are in response to the grace and love we receive, not the way we earn them. The call of God, the love of God, the grace of God all seek to lead us on to sanctification.
God’s grace be with you,
Pastor Bill Laubenberg

If your organization or committee has an event to be held at or sponsored by the church, please call the secretary’s office at 903-639-2131, so it can be placed on the calendar, in the bulletin and in the newsletter.
This will help prevent double bookings at the church.
Come one; come all to hear the word of God and to learn from it. Starting on the 11th of this month Bible study is returning each Wednesday. There will be two different classes, one at 10 am and one at 6 pm. Our first study this year is on the Gospel of Matthew. Come join us on the journey through the Gospel as we discover the messages it has for us.
February distribution day saw beautiful weather and a good turn out for our Food Pantry. We served sixty-nine (69) clients this month and continue registering new folks as the word spreads about this service. This month we notified our clients about our Diaper Bank. Hopefully, the great work Lisa Moreland has started will begin to reach others who have those specific needs.
If you are scheduled to enter a hospital please let the church office know. Need name of hospital, city and date of check in. This will help Pastor Bill be able to be with you in your time of need.
If you or a family member is unexpectedly admitted to the hospital, please give the church office the same information.
We are on this journey together and communication is key.
DISTRICT TRAINING DAY
On February 11th, from 9:30 am to 2 pm at Marshall First United Methodist Church located at 300 E Houston St., Marshall, TX 75670, our District Training day will be taking place. This is a district gathering where we get together and learn from each other’s experiences and equip the saints for work in the church. A list of different workshops that will be available is posted outside the pastor’s office. You are encouraged to look over the list and then give prayerful consideration to attending. The pastor will be going and is willing to car pool.
Recently, in our youth meetings, we have been looking at the idea of living life in a way that would be pleasing in Jesus’ eyes, not focusing on how the world perceives us.
We will be looking at the ideas of humility, the value of hard work, and the dangers of judging others (especially when concentrating on outward appearance).
We will look closely at Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
The Board of Trustees met at the regular meeting time, the 2nd Sunday immediately after worship.
Items that have been recently completed under the trustee’s guidance are repair of the boiler.
The gutters at the parsonage have also been installed completely and to the Trustee’s satisfaction.
We have two plans that are being worked on now for the future. Replacing the flooring in the sanctuary and installing handicapped restroom.
These are not projects to be completed in the next month. Bids have to be collected, money raised, OSHA regulations must be considered. These will take a while to complete but the leg work has begun.
As always, we are keeping the church maintained. If you have a suggestion, please contact one of the trustees.
