Summer is quickly drawing to an end and school is just around the corner. I hope everyone had a good summer and got to take a vacation. Now it is time to join the young people in getting down to work

The different ministries of the church that went on summer break are getting ready to start their engines to move forward. Are you ready to join in?

The Mustard Seeds Youth Group has started moving. One thing we will definitely be moving is our meeting night. Friday night is not a good time once football season starts, so speak your mind concerning what night you would like. Events that are in the working include making cookies (once for us to eat and once to take to the nursing home), bible study, the possibility of holding a dance, movies, making Christmas cards for those in the military, and others that we might agree on later.

Our High School age group needs some help getting started. We need leaders. It has been suggested that instead of having one leader, we go with a group. Would you be willing to handle one month? The group of leaders would meet together to plan the year. Please pray and see if God is calling you to work in this ministry of the church.

There are three new ministries that are starting this year. The first is the start of a Woman’s breakfast on the first Saturday of the month. The breakfast will include a study. Calling all women!! Come and join in!!

The second is the continuing project that is to become Nadine’s Outreach which will be located in our property on 4th street. Come join in the preparation and in the service it will bring to our community.

The third is a new ministry to the youth of our community. I am working with our local elementary to set up a program of reading buddies. It is a reality that unless a child learns to read well by the end of the third grade, they will have trouble with the rest of their education. I am still working on setting this up, so I need your prayers. Then I will need volunteers willing to take part in the program. Let us touch the lives of these young people to help make them better.

Sunday school for all ages continues and I know each class would love for more members to join, especially the young people’s classes. Wednesday Bible studies will start back in September. The plan now is that each month we will have three Wednesdays of study during a month and then on the fourth Wednesday we will have Christian movie night.

There is much to be done as we move forward in our ministry together! Let us go together knowing that God will be with us!

call the office

If your organization or committee has an event to be held at or sponsored by the church, please call the secretary’s office at 903-639-2131, so it can be placed on the calendar, in the bulletin and in the newsletter.

This will help prevent double bookings at the church.

We will be glad to include a listing of your church meeting or activity in the newsletter, but remember that Debbie must have the information before the first of the month in order to have it in the newsletter.

Remembering Your Church with Your Gifts

As all of us know, giving to our church to support God’s Ministry is something we need to remember. Today, we all have active lives. Including vacations, visiting out of town family, attending those special weddings and of course seeing our grandchildren.

Our lives can get hectic and sometimes we can forget our ministry to God. To help with that, we now offer online giving to the church.

Simply go to the church website:

http://fumchughessprings.org/index.php/online-giving/

From here you can donate your gifts to the church.

Heartspring Methodist Foundation is offering this to us at no charge. Every penny you donate comes directly to the church with no fees or service charges.

On this tab, you can decide to give to the general account for the church’s budget or to another special or designated fund. You can make memorials or honorariums to people. (Notifications will be sent to those families). You can make a one-time gift or set up a reoccurring gift. You can use your credit or debit card or have it drafted from your personal account. You can register and create an account or give as a guest. You have a lot of options to have it set up your way and you can change or delete your selection at any time.

So, during your busy schedule, give online giving a try.

If you have any more questions about the process, please call Debbie at the church office. 903-639-2131 Monday – Thursday 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

COMMUNICATION

COMMUNICATION

COMMUNICATION

If you are scheduled to enter a hospital please let the church office know. Need name of hospital, city and date of check in. This will help Pastor Bill be able to be with you in your time of need.

If you or a family member is unexpectedly admitted to the hospital, please give the church office the same information.

We are on this journey together and communication is key.

A Little Reminder:

In case something comes up and you miss Sunday morning service.

You may go to the church Face book page and watch the entire service streamed live. If you can not watch it live, each Sunday’s service is streamed and stored on Face book. You can watch them anytime. If you have a favorite sermon that you would like to hear again, find that date in the video section and listen anytime.

Also, the church website offers many things for church members and those looking for a church home. The pastor’s blog, current calendar of events, the newsletter archived online, online giving, our church ministries and much more. Try to visit regularly, things are always changing.

Office Needs

The church office is not on the prayer phone chain. Because of this, sometimes we miss information about members’ prayer requests or joys to share.

If you have a prayer request or know of one, please call (903-639-2131) or email hsfumc@yahoo.com, the church office. If you call after office hours, please leave a message on the voicemail.

This will help us to know when one of our church family has a special need.

If you would like a church wide email sent for a prayer request, please contact Debbie in the office by phone or email.

Also, please try to keep us informed on the person’s condition.

Thank you, Debbie Kelley

Children’s Department

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Getting ready for back to school.

Carly Tower,

Children’s Coordinator

Have you noticed?

I love to go by the bulletin board at the south entrance of the church. Ms. Carly and the kids always show their creativity and share with us on the bulletin board.

The next time you think about it, stop by and see what the Children’s department has to offer you by way of their creativity.

Thank you, Ms. Carly and all the kids.

NADINE’S OUTREACH

Nadine’s outreach will welcome any and all donations!! Thank you!!

Administrative Council Chairman

At our last administrative council meeting on Sunday, July 15th, we discussed a wide variety of topics.  The main discussions we centered on were two big issues facing our church in the very near future.

The first issue is a structural issue in our sanctuary.  This issue has been obvious to most of us over the last several months due to a large support beam that has been temporarily installed in the south aisle of the church to help ensure one of the large wooden beams in our ceiling doesn’t fall down.  Troy Perry (chairman of our board of trustees) gave us a report that we have a new insurance representative handling our case and that we hope to get answers in the very near future.  Please continue to bear with us as we go through the process to hopefully get the damages covered by our insurance.

The second issue is an even greater threat to our congregation than the previously mentioned issue.  The second issue that I want to bring to everyone’s attention is an attendance/financial issue.  Our finance committee has brought it to my attention that our church is in a bit of a financial pickle, for lack of a better term.  I want everyone to take what I am about to say very seriously because we need to pray about this issue in hopes of it resolving itself ASAP!

Compared to the last several years, our general budget which is where all of the daily operating expenses for our church come out of, thus far in 2018 is almost $20,000 in the negative.  In a nutshell, we have not received near as much money in as we have over the last few years.  Our expenses (electricity, gas, phone, insurance, salaries, etc.) have not decreased however, so this puts us in a serious dilemma.  We literally do not have enough income to continue operating as we have been operating.  Something has to change.

The problem is not that people are not giving to the church, the problem is that a lot of members have either moved to another location or have passed on, and this has greatly impacted our church financially.  If you feel you might know of a way to help with this problem, please contact the pastor, Rod Wright, or myself.  If you feel God is leading you to make a financial donation towards helping resolve this problem, that is truly greatly appreciated!  Please remember that our expenses will likely not decrease so this needs to be a prayer of ours from now on so that our church can continue to grow, thrive, and spread the love of God.  May God bless you!

– Cody McCain, Administrative Council Chairman

MISSIONS

Marsha Bryan Edson

The Mission Committee members are actively working with others from our church and the Cornett church to keep the Shepherd’s Pantry and the diaper bank running smoothly each month.  It takes a lot of dedicated people in front and behind the scenes to keep these projects going. Working through the heat of THIS summer on these projects has been a challenge. The Food Pantry workers outside were blessed by one member bringing a fan for them this month while they handed out food.  STAY COOL!

Diaper Bank News

Please continue to donate diapers, especially sizes four and five. We desperately need them.

Diaper Bank will be open Saturday, August 4 from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm.
