May 22, 2017:

Greetings in the name of the Lord.

Annual Conference was truly enjoyable this year. It was held at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, which is a very impressive church that was also very welcoming. As always, conference is a good time to see old friends who are scattered throughout the conference. This helps remind us of our connectedness.

The worship services were a true blessing. Each year at conference we have services recognizing those clergy who have died the previous year, saying God’s speed to those retiring and a service of ordination for newly received elders. The daily devotions were led this year by Bishop Jones and were based on well-loved hymns.

Something special this year was getting to know more about our new Bishop. The source of the information was his wife. Every now and then she would bring to the conference things we did not know about Bishop Jones. It was done in a very light hearted, fun way and helped to liven up the sessions. One thing I learned was that the bishop can really turn red.

The conference was full of good information and fellowship. I left those days energized and ready to get to work.

May God’s love and grace be with you this week.

See you in church!
