May 22, 2017:

Greetings in the name of the Lord.

Summer is almost here. School is wrapping up and graduation is just around the corner. Now is the time that people start planning their summer trips. Our corndogers are about to hit the road. This summer I will also be hitting the road and heading to Massachusetts to see my son’s family. At this time of year, it is important to remember the church and attend as often as you can.

When you join the church, you made a promise to uphold the church with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness. How are you doing at keeping this promise? For the church to live and grow, it needs all our efforts. It needs every part of the promise to be fulfilled. How often are we remembering our church in our prayers? Prayer is an important part of our faith and our Christian lives. Let us remember to include our local church, our Northern District, the Texas conference, and the United Methodist Church in those prayers. The Methodist Church celebrates connections and those connections have to be nurtured. Where better to find that nurture than in church each Sunday.

Our gifts and our service are very important to the church. Our gifts keep the lights on, support the different activities of the church, and help it to grow. Our service is very important. The Methodist church has always been a church of outreach and support to others. This is hard to do well if we wait for others to do the work. We need to all do our part.

Finally, we promised our witness. Evangelism in the church works best when the people of the congregation take part. It is your church. You should be willing to invite others to come take part in the family you enjoy.

May God’s love and grace be with you this week.

See you in church!
