August 22, 2016:

Greetings in the name of the Lord.

And the rain came tumbling down. This week we finally received some much needed rain. Unfortunately, some of our neighbors in Louisiana received much more than they needed and have flooded. We received this from our Bishop:

Dear Friends,
I have been in close contact with Bishop Cynthia Harvey of the Louisiana Conference and our neighbors there desperately need our help. Some of you may remember Bishop Harvey as she helped the Texas Conference in our efforts through Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Ike. She understands the issues that are before the people of Louisiana more than most. When Bishop Harvey says, “This flood is of Katrina proportions; it’s Katrina without the wind,” I know she fully grasps the gravity of the situation.

I am concerned that, with so much media attention on the political campaigns and the Olympics, this tragedy may get lost in the public’s awareness so I am asking for your help.

The people of the Texas Annual Conference have always responded with extravagant generosity when they are called upon to help others. I am calling on their generosity now. We hope to raise $150,000 in the next few weeks to send immediately to the Louisiana Conference. In your worship services for the next two Sundays (either or both), please take up a special offering to be used directly for the Louisiana flood recovery efforts. Once you have received those offerings, please send directly to the T.A.C. Service Center, Attn: Treasurer’s Office , 5215 Main St., Houston, Texas 77002 and designate them for “Louisiana Floods.” You may also give online at www.txcumc.org, Select the “Want to Contribute” button on the home page or go directly to http://www.txcumc.org/contribute.
May God bless you as once again we respond together to a call for help.
